Long Story [Short]…

Yahoo News, in association with Long Story Short, launched the groundbreaking documentary, “Uniquely Nasty: The U.S. Government’s War on Gays.” It featured original reporting from Chief Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff, and was the inaugural documentary in Yahoo News’ re-launched Viewfinder Series.

This co-production is a 30-minute exploration of the historical persecution of gays and lesbians by the federal government, and its relevance to today’s Supreme Court same-sex marriage case.

It showcased extensive archival material, and also featured the voice talents of Matt Bomer and George Takei as they read from shocking official documents newly recovered from previously closed government files.

The piece premiered in Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, and was  screened at a variety of venues, including the National Archives, Library of Congress, Department of Justice and National Press Club. It has been covered by major national and international news outlets, including NPR, Slate, Daily Mail, PBS’s NewsHour and the Washingtonian, among others.

The documentary is featured content on Yahoo.com, and can be viewed here.

It also won a 2016 Edward R. Murrow Award for News/Documentary.
