When we traveled to Ghana in 2010 with Jessica Alba and the 1GOAL campaign to capture stories around the World Cup, we met Stephen Odai Kwaku. At the time, Stephen was in high school, working at night to support nine family members, and spent every free moment at soccer practice in hopes of one day becoming a professional player.
As part of the 1GOAL campaign, Stephen was invited to travel to South Africa and meet Ghana’s National Team, an experience he had dreamt of his whole life…
Seven years later, Stephen’s persistence and dedication have paid off: he has been recruited to play for that same National Team, the Ghana Black Stars!
Stories like Stephen’s remind us why we do the work we do.
“I see myself being the number one goalkeeper in the world,” Stephen said in 2010. We’d say he’s on the path to reaching that goal. Congrats Stephen!
