This week we received great news: Our documentary “Uniquely Nasty: The U.S. Government’s War on Gays,” produced in collaboration with Yahoo! News and investigative reporter Michael Isikoff, was honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for News Documentary.
We are proud to be alongside this year’s honorees, such as ABC, The New York Times, HBO, and the critically acclaimed documentary “Citizenfour.”
Filmed and produced primarily in D.C., Uniquely Nasty traces the persecution of gays and lesbians by the U.S. federal government over several decades. The documentary’s title Uniquely Nasty is based on the original language used in official federal documents to describe homosexuality at the time.
The piece was released shortly before the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage in 2015 (we even had to update the ending to reflect the momentous decision), and it continues to have relevance to the news today.
Watch the trailer above – you might recognize Matt Bomer’s voice. You can watch the full, thirty-minute documentary here – and be on the lookout for George Takei voicing a very famous former head of the FBI.
