This week, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) launched #AllyWeek, a time devoted to encouraging and acknowledging the work of allies in supporting the LGBTQ youth community.
Over the summer, LSS got involved by recording interviews with stellar student leaders and advocates from across the country. They talked about the challenges they personally face each day at school, providing real context to the political debates and news we often hear about LGBTQ youth issues.
Listen to one of those voices here:
We’ve done global work on these issues before, creating a piece for the first ever report from UNESCO about addressing homophobic and transphobic violence in schools.
It was a great privilege to empower students from communities all across the U.S. to help their voices be heard. Learn more about raising your voice for Ally Week at GLSEN’s website or follow the hashtag on twitter.
As an added bonus, here’s a behind the scenes photo of the LSS crew from the GLSEN shoot.
