Earlier this summer, we won an Edward R. Murrow Award for our documentary “Uniquely Nasty: The U.S. Government’s War on Gays,” produced in collaboration with Yahoo! News and investigative reporter Michael Isikoff. On Monday, our team accepted the award in person at the RTDNA Awards Gala in New York City. We were represented by two of our stellar team members, Mary Marsh and Belinda Shao.
Coincidentally, the awards gala fell on the day before National Coming Out Day, an LGBTQ awareness day where members of the community are encouraged to come out to friends and family. This coincidence marks the progress that the LGBTQ community has made in the past few decades; in “Uniquely Nasty,” we tell the story of a federal employee who was fired for his sexuality, and of a congressman’s son whose sexuality was used as blackmail in his father’s political career. Now, after years of hard work, the LGBTQ community has a national day for awareness and solidarity.
We’re honored to have been chosen by the Radio Television Digital News Association for best News Documentary in the Video category. At LSS, we pride ourselves on work that pushes for social progress, and aims to improve the lives of people around the world.
